Even though most developers spend much of their programming time working with databases, many of them have never had any focused training on how to design and build a database that works smoothly and is easy to use. Rebecca Riordan is a well-known authority on database design. Her intention in this book is to give the reader the knowledge needed to take a messy, complex, realworld situation and turn it into an effective database design. This isn't a "how to program" book. While there are a few coding examples, even people who have never programmed before should be able to follow them. Instead the book is full of practical examples taken from real-world situations, and explained without the use of code. The sample databases used are Access and Microsoft SQL Server, but the lessons are applicable to any database program.
